Pompei (Latin Pompeii), was a town of Campania in Italy located
at 25 km far from Naples at the foot of Vesuvius. Founded
in the VIth century b-JC. In 79, it counted approximately
20000 inhabitants. This year there, it was entirely buried
with Herculanum and Stabies, at the time of an eruption plinienne
of the volcano.
The populated city of merchants and craftsmen was very flourishing.
Forgotten during 1 600 years, it was rediscovered by chance
to become today one of the florets of archaeology and an extraordinary
testimony of the Roman Empire.
